About Norfolk County Court Records

Court records in Norfolk County, Massachusetts are spread across several offices and departments. The Massachusetts Trial Court does not use a single countywide clerk. Cases sit with the Superior Court in Dedham, one of five District Court divisions, the Probate and Family Court in Canton, or another Trial Court department entirely. Finding the right office on the first try is half the work. This site helps you get there without bouncing between government pages.

Why We Built This Site

Massachusetts gives the public broad access to court records. The hard part is knowing which office holds the file. A felony case lives with the Norfolk County Superior Court Clerk of Courts in Dedham. A speeding ticket or small-claims matter lives with the Clerk-Magistrate at whichever District Court division serves that town. A divorce or estate file lives with the Register at the Norfolk Probate and Family Court in Canton. Land records go to the Norfolk Registry of Deeds. Add the Massachusetts Department of Correction, the Norfolk Sheriff's Office, and statewide databases, and the picture gets crowded fast.

This site pulls together the contact details, search portals, fee schedules, and request steps for each of these offices into one place. We focus on Norfolk County. We do not cover other Massachusetts counties.

What You Will Find Here

Every page focuses on Norfolk County specifically. We cover the Superior Court at 650 High Street in Dedham, the five District Court divisions from Brookline to Wrentham, and the Probate and Family Court at 35 Shawmut Road in Canton.

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately run reference site. We have no connection to any Massachusetts court, clerk's office, sheriff's office, or state agency. There are real limits to what we can help with:

  • We cannot file paperwork or send records requests on your behalf
  • We cannot issue certified copies of any court document or vital record
  • We cannot give legal advice or explain how a specific case applies to you
  • We cannot guarantee that every phone number, fee, or address listed on this site is current right now

Only the issuing court or government office can provide a certified copy with an official seal. For Superior Court records, that is the Clerk's Office at 650 High Street, Dedham. For probate and family matters, that is the Register's Office at 35 Shawmut Road, Canton. We can point you there, but the document has to come from them.

The Norfolk County Court System

Norfolk County is served by the Massachusetts Trial Court, a statewide system with seven departments. For most users, the key departments are the Superior Court (felonies and major civil cases, countywide from Dedham), the five District Court divisions (local misdemeanors, traffic, small claims, restraining orders), and the Probate and Family Court (divorces, estates, guardianships, based in Canton). The Norfolk Juvenile Court runs sessions in Dedham, Quincy, and Stoughton, but juvenile records are mostly restricted by statute.

The county seat is Dedham, established in 1793. As of the 2020 Census, Norfolk County had a population of about 725,981, spread across 28 cities and towns from Brookline to Wrentham. The Norfolk County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Patrick W. McDermott, operates the Norfolk County Correctional Center in Dedham.

Search Partners

Some pages on this site include search boxes powered by third-party providers. Those companies set their own pricing and run their own services. When you use one of those tools and it leads to a paid signup, we may earn a referral fee. That revenue helps keep this site free for visitors. We do not control what those tools charge or what shows up in their results.

Keeping Information Current

Clerk offices move. Hours change. Phone numbers get reassigned. We update pages as we hear about changes, but gaps happen. Before you drive to a courthouse in Dedham, Canton, Quincy, or any other Norfolk County location, call ahead first.
